Respite

Our respite students are with us for a 12-week placement, referred via the Fair Access Panel or directly from the Local Authority/schools.

Before moving to our main school, students spend 3 - 4 days completing their initial assessments: Reading, Spelling age, Numicon, Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Boxall, Dyslexia Toolkit, Speech and Language, Pupil Profile, Maths Baseline, English Baseline and Counselling (which can be continued throughout the placement if needed).

Students then follow the respite curriculum, which includes an intervention trip once a week, and survival skills alongside the core subjects.

We keep in regular contact with their dual registered school, making sure they are up to date and informed on their student. After 6 weeks, our Respite and Transition Co-ordinator will book in a Mid-point review meeting with the student, school and parent/carer to discuss how the placement is going so far and what the next 6 weeks will look like. After 12 weeks, an end of placement meeting will be booked in with the student, school and parent/carer as a hand over, where we will give as much information to the school as possible.

Upon their return to school, we will offer drop in meetings for the students once a week for 4 – 6 weeks, to help support the student’s transition into school.
