Respite

Course Overview

Respite students follow a condensed timetable which includes: Maths, English Language, Science, PE, Careers, Core option (Business, History or Photography), Arts Award, Resilience Award, Life Skills, PSHE, Survival Skills and Intervention Trips.

Intervention Trips

Our respite students have a weekly intervention trip, completing activities such as cycling, bowling, escape rooms and many more. Through these trips, we aim to teach students how to be team players, improve social skills and persevere. These trips are also fun, so it is a great way for students to have new experiences and learn new skills with others. For each trip, they have specific skills that they will focus on whilst completing their activities.

Survival Skills

Students learn essential survival skills that prepare them for a variety of emergency situations. The curriculum blends practical experience with theoretical knowledge, allowing students to develop skills like shelter building, water filtration, map reading, and fire making. Through hands-on activities, students work together to construct shelters, build fires, and create unique tools like catapults and even gates. These exercises not only teach valuable survival techniques but also foster teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity. Our approach ensures that students gain both the practical know-how and the theoretical understanding needed to navigate challenging environments safely and effectively.
